Dear Parents,

I am delighted to be able to tell you that school has been awarded Artsmark Platinum.  This is the highest award the Arts Council can award a school in recognition of the work they do in the arts.  We are incredibly proud to receive it.

Today is meet and greet the teachers after school 3.30-4.  Once we have seen the children out to their parents, you are welcome to come into the classrooms with your children to see where they are working this year and meet their teacher with more time than at drop off time.

Monday is a Bank Holiday because it is the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.  School is closed.

Due to school being closed on Monday Tuesday’s dinner is breaded chicken or cheesy bean enchilada.

Tuesday 20^th the PTA AGM and meeting is being held in school at 7pm.  I do hope as many people as possible will attend as you are all members of the PTA.

On Thursday 22^nd swimming starts for Y6 & Y2.  Remember Y6 are meeting at the pool at 8.45.  If you have not returned your child’s forms yet please do so.

On Friday 23^rd we are holding our Harvest Festival.  This year we are collecting food for Glossop food bank.  If possible, please can your child bring in a donation on Friday morning.  We are holding it in school so unfortunately there will not be space to invite you to join us.

On Monday 26^th the very lucky Y6 children go to Whitehall.

On Wednesday 28^th we are holding our bag to school collection.  Please bring to school on that morning any old textiles, shoes, clothes.  They will not accept old duvets.  They can be brought in any bags and put outside the office window.  This is a great way to reuse/recycle old clothes etc and raise money for school.

The sculpture park and music festival is fast approaching.  On Friday 30^th September you are invited with your children to view our sculptures and listen to some of our talented musician parents.  The event will happen after school.

If your child is in Y5 and you have not returned your Whitby Letter please can you do so.

Remember if you want your child to receive the flu immunisation at school you need to register online.  We do not hold this information and cannot remind you that you haven’t done so yet.  Last year a number of parents were expecting us to remind them personally that they hadn’t registered their children; as we do not know who has and who hasn’t we cannot do this.

Dear Parents,

I cannot believe this is the last newsletter of the school year it doesn’t seem five minutes ago I was welcoming you back in September.  What a lot has happened this year.  I hope you are all as proud of your children as I am.  They have all grown, developed and learnt about so many things.  They have performed, taken part in sporting activities, represented the school in so many ways.  They have just been fabulous young people.  It is such a pleasure to be part of their lives.

We managed to have a sports day on Friday, until the rain came down.  I know it feels odd that PTA events like the summer fair can happen but not your attendance at sports day.  This is because you are responsible for your children at the summer fair like you would be at any event you chose to take your children to, whilst at sports day we are.  I am still working on a plan to make it possible for you to come to sports.

It was lovely to welcome the new reception children into school on Tuesday.  Despite the heat they all had a great visit.  They start with us on Wednesday 7^th September.  On that morning the PTA are offering all the parents of the new children coffee and cake in the hall once you have dropped your children off.

I am looking forward to the summer concert tonight.  The children taking part need to be back about 6.50 for a 7.00 start.  Remember to bring your ticket if you are in the audience as you will not be able to come in without it. The number of covid cases are on the rise so masks are advised.

Tomorrow we are saying good bye to our lovely Year 6.  They are leading our assembly at just after 9.  2 family members are invited to come and watch, I will send out the code word tomorrow.  The number of covid cases are on the rise so masks are advised.  They will also have lunch together and a party 4.30-6pm.

We are also saying goodbye to Miss Campbell and Mrs Taylor who are leaving to take up new jobs.  We will miss them both.

We are saying a temporary good bye to Mrs Shepherd who is due to have her baby very soon.  We cannot wait to meet her baby.

If you still owe dinner money please pay today.

Dear Parents,

This is going to be a very brief newsletter as for the first time in all my years at St Luke’s I am writing this from my sick bed!!! I am so hoping to be fit and well by next week, seriously not into this being off business.

Tomorrow is the Summer Fair.  I know a lot of fun things are planned and that you will all have a great time.

Tomorrow is also when Ospreys are leading the assembly at just after 9am.  Parents from that class will be sent a code word via the text messaging service just show that text to gain entry.  Hopefully everything will run smoothly but as it is the first time we have used this system please be patient with any glitches.  Kestrels will be leading assembly on Friday 15^th.

Next week Year 5&6 are performing their play about Cinderella and Sherlock.  Remember entry is ticket only so do remember your tickets.

Our violin and Viola teacher has spaces see below:

There are spaces available for violin and viola lessons from this September. Lessons take place in school and cost £5.25 per week for a group lesson, with subsidies available for children accessing Free School Meals. Individual lessons are also available. Dear Parents,

Thank you to all the parents who have shown understanding and patience over the temporary postponement of events.  I am hoping to be able to update you on new procedures next week.

There is a new way to apply for free school meals, see below.  If you think you may be eligible please do apply.

Parents and carers are now able to check their eligibility and apply for Free School Meals instantly via a Parent Portal.

It is easy to create a Parent Portal account, parents and carers please click the link below, or visit www.derbyshire.gov.uk and use the search box at the top of the page to search for free school meals.

Once signed in, it is quick for parents and carers to check if their child(ren) can receive Free School Meals.

Applications for Free School Meal funding can also still be made via paper form or contacting the Free School Meals Team using these contact details.

Your child should be bringing home information about the Library Summer Reading Challenge.  The children who take part in this always enjoy it and love sharing with us what they have read.

There are a number of parents who have not paid for their children’s dinners.  Please can you check your account and ensure all debts are settled.  Thank you.

I hope the Y6 children going to Glossopdale enjoy their transition day on Friday and those going to St Philip Howard enjoy theirs next week.
