Dear Parents,

Congratulations to the sports hall athletics squad who came third at the High Peak Final.  They showed good sportsmanship and had fun.  We are very proud of them.

We have an exciting day today with the children in key stage two watching a performance by The English Touring Opera.

Tomorrow is break five rules day.  As you will remember the children in school have been really concerned about what is happening in Ukraine and wanted to do something to help the refugees.  On Friday 18th March they have planned a ‘Break 5 Rules Day’.  On that day the children can choose to break any or all of the rules below, for every rule they break they need to donate at least 50p.  The rules they can break are:

  • Sensible hair (the children can have wacky hair / accessories)
  • School shirt / jumper (the children can wear what they want)
  • School trousers, skirts shoes etc (the children can wear what they want)
  • Only water in drinks bottles (the children can have squash in their bottles)
  • Healthy snacks (the children can bring in an unhealthy snack)

If children want to bring in a larger donation we will make sure it goes in the refugee fund, the children wanted me to make that clear.  We are very grateful to Mr Beaman who has offered to put what we raise in with what he is raising as this will mean it is match funded.

If you want to order a copy of your child’s class photo orders need to be returned to us by the end of the day next Wednesday 23rd March.

The Governors wanted to pass on this message:

Many thanks to all those parents who have responded so far to the Parent Survey.  We are really grateful for the time you’ve spent letting us know what you think.  If you haven’t completed it yet, just a quick reminder that the closing date for responses is Monday 21 March and here is the link.  https://forms.gle/tADBYb5Ep3zNTYGR6

The PTA also have a message for you:

Weather permitting, we’ll be holding a whole school Scoot & Skate on Wednesday the 23rd of March! The event starts straight after school on Wednesday so please collect your child as usual. You are responsible for looking after your own child/children at the event and all children scooting/skating must have helmets. We will be selling hot dogs, cakes, drinks and crisps so bring some cash as all proceeds from the event will go toward the current crisis in Ukraine. Children can come with scooters, roller skates, inline skates, but no bicycles. Siblings are welcome and we hope to raise lots of money for Ukraine!
If you can help on the day with serving food or drinks, or could bake us some cakes to sell on the day, please let reception know and we will be in touch!I Thank you!

Stay happy and healthy

Dear Parents,

How are you all?  I hope you are beginning to feel a little more hopeful as there is a hint of spring in the air.

The children in school have been really concerned about what is happening in Ukraine and wanted to do something to help the refugees.  The children in Eagles have been proactive and have organised a fund raising event.

We are running low on spare underwear for when those little accidents happen. If you have any your child has grown out of that we could have we would be very grateful.  We need lots of different sizes.

You have been sent a copy of the contact information we hold for your child if you haven’t checked, signed and returned it yet please can you as soon as possible.

The Governors have asked me to share the information below.  I would really encourage you to complete the survey when it comes out.

I’d like to draw your attention to a parent survey the school governors are sending out.  They are really interested in hearing your views on the school, as this will help guide them in their work.  This survey will be coming out by email very soon and they’d be grateful if each parent could find 10 minutes to complete.  Understanding your views of what we do well and what we can improve will really help us all.  Many thanks!

School catering have asked me to share a link to their school survey as well https://forms.office.com/r/0t5tbExrgJ

Mel has asked me to remind you that the speech and drama sessions for Reception Year1 and Year 2 start on Friday and there are still a few places.

Dear Parents,

Happy World Book Day.  Your children should be bringing home a world book day voucher today.  This voucher can be used in any bookshop either to buy one of the special World Book Day Books or to put towards another book.  I know Bay Tree Books have got a good stock of the World Book Day Books in.  They are our local independent bookshop and are always keen to promote reading.

The older children had an amazing time at the Halle concert yesterday.  They were so excited to be going on a trip and returned buzzing about the experience.  I also was told so many great things about their behaviour.  I am very proud of them.

You have been sent home with the children a consent form for filming.  The Reese Centre from The University of Oxford is making a film about how to support children in schools.  They want to film some background shots here tomorrow the 4th March.  I don’t know who will get into shot at the moment so I have sent forms to everyone.  If you haven’t returned the form and you are happy for your child to be in shot; please can you return the form by tomorrow morning.

I sent you details of the Glossop Fairtrade competition.  Remember to return any entries to school by 11th March.

Monday is class photo day so best bib and tucker time.

The children in Year 6 are taking part in the Dance Festival at Buxton Opera House on 21st March.  This is one of those opportunities where we see children who were unsure at the beginning face the challenge and grow in confidence.  If you haven’t returned the commitment slip yet; please can you do so this week.

Dear Parents,

I hope you are all alright and haven’t been blown away.  Tomorrow looks to be even windier!

Congratulations to the children who represented us at Sports Hall Athletics and at Archery this week.  I have heard nothing but good things about their behaviour, attitudes.  They all came back buzzing having had a great time.  The archers were all smiling despite being soaked through.

You have, I am sure, heard that the covid rules are likely to change with isolation coming to an end.  I have been given no new guidance yet as to what that will mean for school.  I am anticipating that it will mean children will be off school if they are unwell but otherwise will be in school.  If this is what happens staff will stop providing work at home to children with covid because only those who are experiencing symptoms will be at home and they will be too unwell to work.  It will be like any other virus.  I also have no information about the vaccinations for children 5-11 that were announced yesterday.  When I know more I will let you know.

Pupil update forms are being sent home with children, you may have already had yours, please check the contact information we have and return the forms to school as soon as possible.

You have been sent home with the children a consent form for filming.  The Reese Centre from The University of Oxford is making a film about how to support children in schools.  They want to film some background shots here on the 4th March.  I don’t know who will get into shot at the moment so I have sent forms to everyone.  Please can you return the forms to school as soon as possible.

Thursday 3rd March is World Book Day; it is in fact the 25th anniversary of World Book Day.  To celebrate this we are inviting the children to come dressed as a character from a book and bring the book they are from to school.  If the children do not want to dress up they do not have to.  If they just want to make a mask to represent that character, they can.  Please do not feel you have to go out and spend money on this a costume that is a nod to the character is more than good enough.  I know it is the first swim for the children in Y1 and Y5 that day, if it makes it easier they can bring their costume in a bag and we will get them changed at school. Alternatively they can wear their costume to the baths with their swimming costume on underneath.

Glossop Fairtrade Campaign are running a competition.  I am attaching the details.  Please return any entries to school by 11th March.

Have a lovely half term holiday.  See you on 28th February.

Stay happy and healthy
