Dear Parents,

It was lovely to see everyone back after the half term break. I know it feels very strange as we have just gone into the second national lock down. This one feels different with darker nights and less optimism. I know lots of people are feeling a heightened anxiety level and are finding they get angry quicker and are less tolerant of others. Please try to be kind to yourself, accept we cannot do or control everything and forgive yourself for not always feeling great. This will help us all forgive each other. I hope you all have someone to talk to who will support you, if you haven’t please remember we are here for you as well as your children. We will get through this winter and spring will come, hold onto that hope for the future.

The lock down changes do not substantially affect primary schools, we remain open and are delighted to be here for your children.

This week has been RE week and across the school the children have been learning about different religions and thinking about those big questions. As ever the staff have been very pleased with the thought the children have put into their discussions.

It is also Parliament Week and we are very grateful to Robert Largan MP for The High Peak for taking time out of a very busy week to talk to the older children about the job he does. The children enjoyed learning more about being an MP.

We would like the children to enjoy as many of the traditional activities for this half term as possible, they may be different but they will still happen. The dates are:

December 1st – Christmas tree make – in classes not houses. One tree will be put up in the Methodist Church for their Christmas Tree Festival.

16th December – Y5 party Y1 party

17th December – Reception party,  Y2 party,  Y3 party,  Y6 party,  Y4 party (We will use the classrooms and other spaces for parties)

18th December – Carol Service – this will be on zoom and you will be invited to join us

Christmas Dinner

Finish for Christmas

4th January – Return to school

Applications for primary school places open on the 9th November. We are not able to give tours of the school but there is a link to a virtual tour on our website. The link is https://youtu.be/WZowdyTMRe8 do share this with anyone who has a child due to start school next September.

Stay happy and healthy

Dear Parents,

Here we are on the last day of the half term, tomorrow is an INSET day and the children are back in school on 2nd November. It will be so nice to have the Y6s back with us we have missed them. The children have been fantastic this half term we are proud of them all in fact so proud for the first time ever I have awarded all of them a super student badge because that is what they have been, super students. I feel I should be giving you all a badge too as your support for school this half term has been great. We have all really appreciated it, the feeling that we are all working together for our community has been a source of great joy.

Tomorrow we are going to attempt parent’s meetings via zoom, you should have received your link. If you are on a computer, you just click the link and follow the instructions to open the link. If you are using a tablet or phone you will need to download the Zoom for Intune (meet happy) app. If the app is open, you may be able to just click on the link to open the meeting. If not, you can enter the meeting using the meeting id and password. It sounds a bit complicated but trust me even I can do it! You should enter into a waiting room and you will be brought into the meeting when the teacher is ready for you. If it does not work we will give you a quick ring so you may get a call from a number you don’t recognise.

We are having another bag 2 school day on Wednesday 18th November. I know this is a bit away but we are sending home the bag 2 school bags today just in case you get inspired to have a clear out over half term. A bag 2 school day is a fundraiser for school when we ask you to bring in any old clothes, shoes or other textiles. We give you a bag but they can be brought in any bag not just the official one. Please do not bring the bags in until the 18th November as we do not have anywhere to store them.

If you owe any dinner money please can you pay it so we can reconcile the half term accounts – thank you.

We are also sending out the new menus which start after half term.

Over half term Ruben’s Retreat are holding a fundraising ‘Creepy Crawl’:

Dear Parents,

Well another week has flown by with the children working hard and enjoying being together. I hope we don’t have to ask anybody to isolate but we continue to plan just in case. Over the next few weeks you should receive a QR code this is to enable you and your child to access See Saw. This is a great way for your child to be able to share any work they do at home whilst in isolation with us and for the teachers to be able to give them feedback on it.

Whilst thinking about Covid I am sure you are all aware that Glossop has been put in Tier 2, I know the information about what this means has been hard to pin down so here are some headlines. This does not change what we are doing in school but it does change what you can do at home. You cannot meet with anyone from outside your household indoors, so those sleep overs and playing at each other’s houses or meeting up for tea out has to stop. The exceptions include for childcare including informal childcare. Childminders can still operate as normal and you can have an arrangement with one other family to care for each other’s children, the guidance is clear that it is not one family one day and a different family another day – sorry. Someone who lives with no other adult can still be part of a bubble with another household. You can still meet outside as long as you obey the rule of 6. People are asked to work from home if they can. I hope this helps and the new rules do not cause you any major headaches.

On Wednesday 21st October, we are asking the children to bring in a donation for Glossop Food Bank this can be tins, dried food or toiletries. We are also for the first time supporting Social Box Biz. SocialBox.Biz, a social enterprise, supplies free reused laptops with open source software to the homeless, refugees and the elderly. It was founded by a former child refugee who was given an old used laptop. SocialBox.Biz has had a surge in requests for the laptops but unfortunately has not been able to meet the increased demand. If you have an old but usable laptop and charger which you are happy to donate please send it into school.

Hopefully on Monday you will get the link to your zoom parents meeting on Friday 23rd, we have tried to accommodate everyone’s wishes.

I am attaching a letter about private speech and drama lessons held at school.

Stay happy and healthy
