Dear Parents,

Thank you very much for your generosity, school raised over £200 for Children in Need.

Today is World Toilet Day and it seems a good day to remind you of the difference you have made to Sanitation around the world. There are four communities who now have access to a safe toilet thanks to you. I know a number of families are twinning their own toilet with one needed in the third world increasing the number of communities benefiting from improved sanitation.

Well done to the Year Fours who bravely came back to school for a sleepover on Friday. I know they all had a great time and were very proud of their achievement. It is no small thing to sleep away from home with a group, but now they are ready to embrace the opportunities offered by longer residentials in Years 5 & 6.

Our mud larks, or cross country team as they are more often known, did really well on Tuesday coming sixth in the High Peak. Thank you to Mr Warburton and the parents that made this possible. I do hope the mud comes out of your cars!

This week has been anti bullying week. We have been focusing in on online safety. If you would like more information about keeping your children safe online the NSPCC website has lots of good information. Their netaware page includes information about sites your children may talk about going on which you, and defiantly I, have little knowledge of. If you want to check if something is appropriate this is a good place to start. I am attaching the use of IT agreement that we ask the children to sign up to so you can see the rules we have at school.

Remember next Tuesday is open afternoon when anyone who would like to come and see the school at work is very welcome to pop in between 1.30 -3.00. Do let anyone applying for a place next year know about this event.

Parents of our fabulous choir members please remember to return the slip to let us know you have received the letter about the festive bookings!

Peak Performers Choir is looking for new members. This is a choir of young people aged 7-13 that meet on Wednesdays between 6-7 at Partington Theatre Club Room to sing together. If your child is interested more information can be found by ringing the choir director Brenda Pickford on 01457 856851 / 07975856424

There was a brief and windswept PTA meeting this week. It was mainly looking at arrangements for the Christmas Fair on Friday 11th December 5-6.30. If you are available and would like to help with this event please let the office know.

Dear Parents,

The Year 6’s arrived back in school tired but proud having spent three days at Whitehall on a residential doing adventurous activities. Well done to all of them and a huge thank you to the staff who gave up their time to make it possible. Tomorrow the Year 4’s will be spending the night in school enjoying their first residential.

Gardening Club are collecting materials to make wind chimes and wind catchers for the sensory garden. If you have any unwanted tins, keys, buttons or CDs they would be very grateful for them. They also would be grateful for any plant pots.

The boys did very well at football last Friday and they have more league matches this Friday and next. We have also been offered the chance for a B team to join them so even more children can take part. We wish them all luck.

We are through to the High Peak final for the cross country which will be held next Tuesday. Good luck to all the members of the squad.

Tomorrow is Children in Need day. This year we are offering you the chance to get rid of all that annoying loose change by bringing it in to school. We are aiming to make a Pudsey picture out of it.
The Kestrels will be leading our assembly on Friday 13th and the Kites on Friday 20th. You are very welcome to join us for these.

The PTA meeting tonight at 7.15 will be in school not at the cricket club as originally planned.

If you would like to order a copy of your child’s school photo remember they need to be in tomorrow, Monday at the latest.

Further to my plea last week for people to apply for free school meals, even if their child is in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2, if you are in receipt of Universal Credit I believe you are eligible. Please do apply if you even think you just might qualify as it makes a substantial difference to the money we have available to help your child.

Next week is Anti Bullying Week. This year we are focusing in on online bullying and how the children can stay safe. We will be reminding them that the minimum age for platforms such as Facebook is 13, not to give out personal information, not to meet up with people they have got to know online and to report anything that makes them feel uncomfortable.

Dear Parents,
I hope you all had a lovely week last week. The children have come back to our Big Write Week and have all been involved in creating characters, stories, reports and letters. I am really looking forward to reading their writing.

You should have received your child’s photo proof this week. If you would like to order any copies please return the form and money by Thursday 12th November.

Just a reminder that it is non uniform day tomorrow. The children in Kestrels, Peregrines and Ospreys are asked to bring in donations for the chocolate tombola and everyone else, gifts for the wrap stall.

The boy’s football league starts on Friday after school. I know the boys are looking forward to this.

Next Monday the Year 6s go to Whitehall for three days residential. I am sure they will have a great time.

Thursday 12th is the day the children in Years 1&2 will get their flu immunisation. If you haven’t yet sent back your form about this please do so.

There is a PTA meeting 7.15 at The Cricket Club. Everyone is encouraged to come if they can.

On Friday 13th the Kestrels will be leading our assembly at just after 9.00, do join us for this if you can. It is also the night of the Year 4 Sleep Over!

On Tuesday 24th November we are holding an open afternoon for anyone who would like to look round the school. If you know of anyone who’s children will start school next September do invite them to come for a look. If you would like to come and look at what the children are doing you would be very welcome.

This is a special plea to help with school funds. For every child eligible for free school meals at our school we get extra money in the budget. Now all the children in Reception Year 1 and Year 2 get a dinner free people don’t necessarily apply and without that application we don’t get the funding. Please, please, please if you think you qualify apply. See below:

Dear Parents,

We are almost at the end of this half term and what a busy one it has been. The children are looking ready for a holiday to recharge their batteries and come back ready to learn.

This week has been a very successful week for the Tag Rugby Teams. On Tuesday Glossop Rugby Club and High Peak Sport organised a special tournament. It was an amazing event with face painting, an ex England player signing autographs and information about a healthy lifestyle. At the last minute we were offered the chance to take a second team as another team had dropped out. Our second team came third and our original team came second. They were very disappointed because they only lost the final at the very last moment due to a disallowed try. It bodes very well for the real tournament later in the year.

Also on Tuesday three of our pupils organised a stall in the playground to raise money for Wateraid. They raised an amazing £50, which will be match funded by the government. Well done to them.

The report following the church school inspection has come out this week, you should get a copy tonight. It is well worth a read as it says lots of lovely things about your children. It is so reassuring to have an external inspector come into school and appreciate the quality of the work being done and the fabulous social relationships between the children.

Tomorrow Peregrines are leading our Assembly please join us if you can, it will be shorter than last weeks!

We finish for half term tomorrow and so the PTA will be selling popcorn in the playground to get us all in a holiday mood.

Over half term it will be Halloween and I know trick or treating is a very popular activity. The police every year ask us to remind everyone that it needs to be done safely. If you choose to let your children go out they need to be with an adult. Please respect other members of the community by only knocking on doors of people you know or who have indicated that they wish to participate. A number of older or more vulnerable members of the community are scared by people knocking on their doors at night, and feel intimidated by unknown people in the dark. I know you are all kind people who are enjoying an event but others don’t. I do know that lots of you will be attending a party or organising something at home rather than going out on the streets so that the occasion can be safely enjoyed by everyone.

As usual we are collecting for the Royal British Legion and so have poppies for sale in school for a donation. This year The Royal British Legion has also sent a small collection of gifts for sale for 50p. They include pencils, rubbers, bugs, reflective tags and wristbands. If you would like your child to buy any of them they are available from the office.

We return to school on Monday 2nd November. That evening at 6pm we have a meeting for the parents of the Merlin’s Class who are going to Whitehall.

On Tuesday 3rd November the Eagles will get the chance to have a go on a climbing wall which the council are bringing to school. They need to have their PE kit in school for that day.

If you haven’t returned your Glossop Fun Run Jog money yet please do so as the Rotary Club want to finalise totals and certificates.

On Friday 6th November we are having a non-uniform day. In return for the pleasure of wearing suitable home clothes we are asking the children to bring in donations for the Christmas Fair. The fair is the PTAs main fundraising event of the year and we are always very grateful for the support you give. This year we are asking the children in Kestrels, Peregrines and Ospreys to bring in something chocolatey for the chocolate tombola. The rest of school are asked to bring in a gift for the wrap stall. The idea of this is that the children can buy a present for a family member and the staff will wrap it for them all ready for the big day. Kites are asked to bring in red gifts, Harriers green gifts, Eagles gold gifts and Merlins silver gifts but anything that would make a lovely present for a child to give you would be very welcome.

There is a new menu starting after half term. You should have a copy coming home tonight. The first week back is National school Meals week so the menu is slightly different:

Monday meatballs or vegetable lasagne
Tuesday chicken curry or cheese & bean burritos
Wednesday roast turkey dinner or cheese and potato flan
Thursday sausages or vegetarian sausages
Friday fish fingers or vegetarian pastry roll

There have been a number of reports of nits please check your families’ hair over half term and treat them with lotion or by combing if live head lice are found.
