Dear Parents,

We had a lovely Sports Day on Friday, well done to everyone. Then the boys did very well in the cricket and are through to the High Peak Final today. We hope they have a good afternoon.

On Monday some of the children had a great time making frog masks for the Harriers to wear when they are performing as part of Glossop Music Festival.

Today is a very busy day as some of the children are going to the Thank You Film Awards Ceremony in Birmingham. We have had three of our films shortlisted and are very proud of all the children involved in making these films. They have been invited to Birmingham to see their film on the big screen. The dress code is dress to impress so glitz and glamour it is.

It is the welcome meeting for the parents of the new children tonight at 7pm. We are looking forward to them becoming part of our school family.

On Friday it is Scoot and Skate after school. For £1 the children can stay at school and play on their scooter, skateboard or skates. Everyone needs to be wearing a helmet. You should have received a letter about this yesterday.

On Friday there will be no family assembly in the morning as we will be sharing the work we have done during RE week from 2pm. You are very welcome to join us if you would like to.

On Friday 19th June our Assembly will be led by Kites and Harriers will be performing a violin concert for us. Do join us if you can.

On July 6th the orchestra will be playing in assembly you would be very welcome to join us for this.
Another new date for you is The St Luke’s Film Festival on Monday 6th July at 5pm. This is a chance to see the Thank You films the children have made and the Greatest Generation Film they made for the BBC.

We are always keen to have feedback about the school so we would ask you to complete the questionnaire you can find at http://goo.gl/forms/AXLs6RmglD you can fill one in for each child you have with us.

Five of our Y5 children are doing a sponsored swim – as many lengths as they can in an hour – to raise money for Diabetes Research. There is a sponsor form in the office, or they will accept donations. Please support them if you can.
The NCT have asked me to let you know about a Fun Day and nearly new sale on Sunday 21st June 10-2.00 at The Venue at Wimberry Hill Cemetery Road, Glossop.

The Friends of the Station have organised a Teddy Bears Picnic on Saturday 13th June 10.30 – 1.30. Children accompanied by an adult and a teddy bear travel free between Glossop, Hadfield and Hattersley Stations.

I have listed the dates again overleaf as I know this is a very busy half term.

Dear Parents,
Welcome back. I hope you all had a good week last week.

As it looks as if summer might be beginning now seemed a good time to remind everyone about school uniform. It is grey trousers, shorts or skirt with a white polo shirt and a red sweatshirt or cardigan or a red and white summer dress. The children need to be wearing black school shoes or appropriate sandals. I understand that at this time of year if school shoes are broken it is the wrong time to replace them but footwear needs to be appropriate i.e. not things like yellow trainers or red sparkly sandals. The wearing of makeup including nail varnish is not allowed. Children may wear a watch, they may also have one set of stud earrings provided they can take them out for PE. No other jewellery is permitted. Please help your child feel fully part of the school by sending them in uniform. Oh yes and can all items of uniform be labelled as we have loads of unnamed items of clothes around school which we cannot return to their owner, thank you.

Fingers crossed it is looking good for sports day tomorrow at 10am. Provided it does not rain heavily between now and then it will go ahead. You are welcome to attend if you would like to. The children need to make sure they have their PE kit in school. We will provide everything else they need such as drinks.

Due to sports day happening in the morning there will be no Friday toast this week, nor will there be a family assembly.

This is a very busy half term with sports day this week, thank you films award ceremony next Thursday and scoot and skate next Friday 12th June. On this day the PTA invite any child to bring their scooter or skates or skateboard to school and enjoy an hour of activities with them after school. We tried it for the first time last year and it was a lovely evening. There is a small charge for the event and refreshments are available to buy.

On Friday 12th June there will be no assembly in the morning but one at 2pm for the children to share what they have done during the third RE week of the year. You are very welcome to join us for this.

On Friday 19th July Kites Class will be leading the assembly and Harriers will also be rounding off their work on the violin by performing for us. Please join us for this.

After the concert Harriers will be leaving to travel to Derby to listen to the BBC Ten Pieces Concert – a very exciting day for them.

This weekend there will be a new temporary fence erected in the more active yard. This is because the company carrying out emergency repairs to the railway line need access. There will be no impact on the children.

Dear Parents,

We have been having a lovely time during Take One Picture Week exploring the many channels the picture Mr & Mrs Andrews takes us. I am looking forward to Friday afternoon when the children will be sharing some of what they have done. If you would like to join us at 2pm feel free.

You can tell it is walk to school week this week because it has been so wet! If you haven’t yet supported this event by walking at least part of the journey to school please try to.

The Osprey Class had a good time at the Summer Sports Festival on Friday. Thank you to St Philip Howard School for organising it.

The Pamper Night went well. There was a lovely atmosphere. The hall was decorated so well with very artistic touches. Thank you to everyone who helped with this.

The children who went to the sporting event at Buxton Dome yesterday had a great time. They won the award for the ‘Spirit of The Games’. Well done to all of them, I know the staff were very proud of them.

It is Plant Sale Pick up day today so make sure you collect any plants you have ordered.

We finish on Friday for half term. The children will return to school on Thursday 4th June. We will attempt to have sports day on Friday 5th June at 10am.

HELP we are very short of Friday toast making volunteers. If you might have an hour free on a Friday morning to make toast we need you to volunteer. If we do not get some more people able to be on the rota we may have to cancel toast.

Dinner money for next half term is £72.15. Can I remind you that dinner money must be paid in advance. If you are in arrears please settle your bill.

I hope you all have a lovely bank holiday.

Dear Parents,
What a week we have had. On Friday the choir performed beautifully at the Choir Festival and gained a trophy for being the most innovative choir. Well done to all of them. It was a long tiring afternoon but they rose to the occasion.

On Sunday three children went to London to be interviewed live on BBC1. They did so well. We were treated like celebrities which just made everyone more nervous! Once the interview was over we were able to relax and look at all the things that were going on including the veteran’s parade and the flyby of spitfires and The Red Arrows.

The Year 6 children have been sitting their SATs tests this week but will finish today. I have been very impressed with the positive attitude they have displayed and their determination to do well.
The Harrier’s did some work to prepare for the BBC Ten Pieces Concert they are going to on Friday 19th June. Letters about this will follow.

Yesterday the tag rugby team took part in the Glossop tournament and played well. Well done to them.

I am sorry I had to cancel Sports Day but the forecast on Monday was terrible. I know it now looks like a lovely sunny day but a decision needed to be made. We will try again on Friday 5th June at 10am.

We are all looking forward to Kestrel’s leading our Assembly tomorrow at about 9.00. Do join us.

Next Week is Take One Picture Week, when we base our work around a picture from The National Gallery collection. It is a week we all look forward to each year. There will be an assembly on Friday 22nd May at 2pm to share our work, you are very welcome to join us. Because of this there will be no assembly in the morning.

On Monday 18th the Harriers will be walking to the Library for a talk from the Dog’s Trust.

Remember it is Pamper Night tomorrow. I hope you are all coming to be pampered.

We finish for half term on Friday 22nd May. School reopens for the children on Thursday 4th June.
