Dear Parents,
I hope you all had an enjoyable Easter.  It is lovely to see the children’s rested happy faces back ready to learn.
A number of people have raised concerns about lollies being given out as birthday treats to the children.  I would ask that they are not sent in to school.
Just to warn you to be extra alert, there seems to have been an increase in the amount of dog dirt on the routes to school.
School run Clubs restart on Monday (PAS and Gymnastics dates are sorted by them).
Monday –  Orchestra before school
Key Stage One Club
ICT
Arts and Crafts Club
Tuesday – Quest Club at Lunchtime
Science Club
Film Club
Gardening Club
Thursday – Drama Club

Swimming starts for Harriers on Thursday 23rd April.
On Friday 24th April the Eagles are spending the morning at Glossopdale.  Meeting at the Hadfield Site at 9.15.
There is a PTA meeting on Thursday 23rd 6.45 at The Cricket Club.  Do try and come if you can.
A couple of notices from the Cricket Club: tomorrow night they are having a quiz night if you are interested in entering a team of 4/6 ring 764366.        The Friday night coaching sessions for children in Year 1 upwards start on Friday 24th April.  Registration from 6.20pm, coaching 6.45 – 7.45.  I know this is a very popular activity that gets the children to a high standard in cricket.  If your child is interested do go along.
Dates for the term attached.  As ever dates may change so do keep an eye on the newsletter and the website.

Dear Parents,

Thank you so much to all of you and to Mr Warburton – Red Nose Day was a fantastic day.  The children loved decorating the staff’s faces.  The children all looked fantastic, they had made such an effort.  Even better than that we raised £311.84 for comic relief.

Today is the last swim for Eagles.

Tomorrow 20th March Kites Class will be leading our Assembly.  The week after, Friday 27th,we will be in church for our Easter Service.  We would love you to join us for this.  It will start at around 9.20 – 9.30 once we have walked the children over from school.

The Girls Football Team did very well again last week winning most of their matches.  Tomorrow they have another set of matches.

On Monday the Merlins will be representing school at the High Peak Dance Festival.  They will be performing at Buxton Opera House.  The dance they have devised is moving and inspiring.  At one point they were seeing how many members of staff they could reduce to tears!  I can’t wait to see it on a proper stage.

The Sports Hall Athletics Squad has made it through to the county final and will be representing The High Peak.  They will be leaving school at 7.30 am to travel to derby on Tuesday. We all wish them good luck.

Tuesday is also the Easter Raffle and Tea.  This is a great event.  I know you have all been selling tickets madly, though it can’t have been too hard with the great prizes that are on offer.  If you have run out of tickets and would like more just ask the office.  Please return all slips and money by Friday as they have to be separated and folded by the elves.  I didn’t know elves ran on wine until I came here, you never stop learning.  The event itself will take place from 2pm.  We ask the children to bring in £1 for a drink and a cake.  You are also invited to join us for tea and cake.  During the afternoon the raffle will be drawn. If there are any Mary Berrys out there who would be able to bake for this event the PTA would be very grateful.  Just let the office or Georgina’s Mum know.

On Wednesday the Eagles leave for Whitby.  The forecast is looking good, sunshine and light showers, so they should have a great time looking at the Geography and History of this town.  Remember the children need to be at school slightly early as they will be leaving at 9am.  They do need a packed lunch.  Please don’t pack this in their main luggage or they will struggle to get it out at lunch time.  They will be back on Friday.

We finish for Easter on Friday 27th March and school reopens on Monday 13th April.

Dear Parents,

I cannot believe how quickly this term is going events that seemed to be a long way in the future are nearly upon us.

Today is a Glossop wide Bug Busting Day.  All the schools in Glossop are asking everyone to check their heads tonight and treat the head lice if they are found.  If we all do it on the same night we stand a better chance against them.  The problem is if the children here are cleared on Thursday and then they go to dance or football on Saturday and meet up with a child from another school they could be re-infected and bring them back to us.  You get the picture.  Your child should be bringing home a detection comb to help.  The best way to check for head lice is to wash the person’s hair put conditioner on and before you rinse it off use the comb to look for lice.  If you find a live louse – do not panic!  You can treat them in two ways; by using an insecticide treatment available from chemists or supermarkets or by combing.  If you use an insecticide you must retreat as it instructs or else you will get rid of the live lice but not the eggs so when they hatch the child (or adult) will still have lice.  The combing method is to use conditioner as above, make sure you get rid of all the live lice then repeat every four days until you get two consecutive clear combings.  Is your head itching now? Mine is.

Tomorrow is Red Nose Day.  We are having fun and raising money in several ways:

Kestrels will be leading a Red Nose Day assembly do join us if you can.

The children can come in non-uniform – something red.  We would ask for a donation of at least £1 for this.

The children can come to school with a funny decorated face and enter the funny face competition.  Again we would ask for a donation of at least £1 for this.

The children can bid to decorate a member of staff’s face (Mrs. Hillier, Mr Warburton, Ms Lee, Ms Nichols, Mrs McLaren or Mrs Littlehailes).  The children need to bring an envelope, or piece of paper with the name of the staff member their name and their bid.  We have explained to the children that the bid needs to be an amount they will actually pay!  The children could club together to put in a joint bid.  The child who puts in the highest bid for each member of staff will get to decorate that staff member’s face.

Next week is parent’s evening week.  The staff are doing the tricky sorting out of appointments today so you should receive your appointment time tonight or tomorrow.

If you haven’t sent in your order for a class photo and you would like one the orders are being picked up tomorrow, so it would need to be in first thing.

I hope the raffle tickets are proving to be a hit with all your friends and family.  If you need more tickets they are available from the office.

School run clubs finish this Friday until Monday 20th April.

Dear Parents,

There is such a lot to celebrate this week and more to come.

A huge well done to the Sportshall Athletics Squad who have made it through to the county final.  They will be going down to Derby on 24th March to represent the High Peak.

The children did an amazing job on enterprise afternoon and raised just over £300.  Not only will this make a huge difference to the villages in Bangladesh we are supporting but the children learned a lot.  I was very impressed with their team work, problem solving and communication skills.  These are all the skills employers say are lacking in school leavers. I am confident our children are developing them.

Today is World Book Day.  Thank you again to Lily Barlow who donated her pirate experience to St Luke’s I am sure the children will enjoy a piratical day.  Your child should be bringing home a book token which can be exchanged for a special World book day Book or used as £1 off a book.  This is a present to the children from the booksellers of this country.  We are very grateful to them.

As if that wasn’t enough excitement for one week Saturday sees the choir singing with Kinder Choir.  They will meet at Buxton Pavillion Garden’s Octagon at 9.50 in uniform with their packed lunch.  Please make sure they have had a drink and a good breakfast as singing is hard work.  We will look after the children until after the concert that starts at 3.00.  Tickets should be sent home today, if they haven’t got to you let us know.  Thank you to everyone who offered lifts I have sent home requests as needed.  If you haven’t managed to make contact with the family involved please let us know.  The office will be open tomorrow.

Tomorrow 6th March is an INSET day when the school is closed to children for staff training.

Next Monday 9th March we have a short parents meeting for those going on the residential to Whitby at 6pm.

Thursday 12th March is going to be a Glossop wide bug busting day.  We will be asking all the families in Glossop to check their heads for head lice and treat them if found.  If we all do it together there is more chance of us reducing the incidence of them.

Thursday 12th sees the Peregrines taking part in a Glossop dance session at Glossopdale School.

Friday 13th is Red Nose Day wear something red or make your face funny or both.

Kestrels Class will be leading our assembly on Friday 13th please join us if you can.  It is also the gymnastics competition on that afternoon and the next fixture for the girls football team.

You should get a parents evening letter today.  Please fill in as many boxes as possible as it can be very hard to accommodate everyone.  Please note the times for Kite’s class are different on the Tuesday as Mrs McLaren has an appointment elsewhere.  She will be available 1.15 – 2.45pm and on Wednesday at the same times as everyone else.

I have had a plea from Glossopdale Food Bank.  They are running low on food if anyone could send into school canned or dried food they would be very grateful.
