Dear Parents,

We have had another busy week:

  • Education Sunday was celebrated in church. We thank the parish for holding us in their thoughts.
  • The girl’s football team made a good start to their tournament by winning one match and drawing one. The England Men’s cricket team would love to have a results line like that!
  • There was a very successful and red disco. Thank you to everyone who helped make this such a good night.
  • The Year 4 & 5 s had their last session with Katharine Moore who has been very impressed with the quality of the singing from all the children, both those who can take part in the concert and those who are not able to.
  • Class photos have been taken. I do hope you will be pleased with the results.
  • Kestrels have had a good explore around Glossop. This is for their work on ‘Me and My World’ and for their entry into The Thank You Film Awards. The children wanted to say thank you for their town.

Congratulations to the Sports Hall Athletics Squad who have made it through to the High Peak final next Wednesday.  We wish them lots of luck.

It is the Bag 2 School collection tomorrow, 27th February.  Please bring in your bag of unwanted clothes by 9am as the pick up is scheduled for the morning.  We are very grateful to you for joining in with this as it raises several hundreds of pounds every year for school fund.

On Tuesday the Netball Team will be taking part in the Glossop Tournament.  We hope they have a great time.  I am sure they will show the same sportsmanship as all our teams.  The sporting way they conduct themselves is often commented upon.

Wednesday 4th is a very busy day with the choir having a rehearsal at Hayfield Primary School in the morning.  The athletics squad are competing in the afternoon and it is Enterprise Day.  I do hope you will be able to support the children’s work by sending them in with a little money to spend at the stalls and or attending the event.  The children will be running the stalls between 2 – 4.

Thursday 5th is World Book Day.  This year we have a pirate theme as we have a visit from a pirate booked curtesy of Lily Barlow who has donated her prize of a pirate visit to school.  Please send the children to school in pirate clothes or with a pirate book or just clutching a black spot!

Remember Friday 6th March is an INSET day when school will be closed to the children.

Saturday 7th is the day of the choir concert.  If you haven’t yet got your tickets to see the choir at Buxton please call into the office.  We would love to have lots of supporters whether or not your child is singing.

Dear Parents,

It seems a long time ago now but the end of last half term was a very successful one.  The Sports Hall Athletics teams did very well.  They worked well as a team, thought tactically and came first.  Congratulations to them.  House verse speaking was great.  The children did such a good job.  It was fascinating to see how the different houses tackled the same poem and how they presented their own poem.  Well done to Willow house who won the competition and thank you to you who helped the children learn the poems.

The children have come back ready to learn having had a good break.  Lots of them have been enthusiastically writing prayer suggestions for St Luke’s Church.  It is Education Sunday this Sunday and the children’s ideas will form part of the service.  The service is at 10am and everyone is welcome.

Tomorrow, 20th February, Harriers will be leading our Assembly.  Eagles will be leading it on Friday 27th.  As always, everyone is very welcome to join us.

Tomorrow is a very busy day because the Girls Football team start their tournament, we wish them luck.  It is also the PTA disco 5 – 6.30.

Remember it is class photos on Wednesday 25th February, so it is guaranteed your child will get breakfast and toothpaste down their front that morning!

I sent out a new dates list on Monday because there have been a number of changes.  If you have not received a copy please let us know.

On the dates list is an event we haven’t done before the House Enterprise Afternoon Wednesday 4th March.  This is an opportunity for the children to learn about finance and budgeting, to work together as a team and to raise money for others.  The money raised will go to a village in Bangladesh to be seed money for them to start their own businesses. If they can afford to stay in the village it will give their children a better start in life because they won’t be living in slums and they will be able to go to school.  These are the arrangements:

  • On the afternoon the stalls will be open from 2 – 4. You are invited to come at any point within those times.
  • The children will be given the opportunity to visit the stalls with their housemates between 2 and 3. If you would like to support the event by sending them in with some money to spend I know the children would be grateful.
  • The children can be picked up at the normal time from their normal door. We would ask that you don’t try to take the children from the hall because we need to be sure everyone is accounted for.
  • If you would like to visit the stalls with your child after school it would help make the event a success.
  • Some of the older children will be needed to staff the stalls after school. If you are happy for them to volunteer to do this do let them know. Once the rotas have been sorted we will send letters home with those who have volunteered.

Dear Parents,

Well the weather has certainly made a difference over the last week.  Well done to everyone who made it safely to school through the snow, and even more impressively across the ice.  I know the children have been very frustrated at being kept in since Monday, as they had such fun playing out in the snow last week, but the playgrounds are not safe.  We are so lucky to have Keith who has cleared a good path so people can get into school without having to go on the ice.

The Merlin’s performance was a victim of the weather. Buxton Opera House had to cancel the performance as so many other schools were closed.  They are trying to reschedule the event for later in the year.

The PTA quiz night still went ahead and was enjoyed by all.  Thank you so much to everyone who helped make this event not just possible but a triumph.

The PTA meeting this week was well attended, it was lovely to see people coming along for the first time.  The plans are now in place for the next disco on Friday 20th February.  It has a theme of red.  The PTA has changed the date of the Easter Raffle and Tea.  It will now be on Tuesday 24th March.

Peregrine Class are leading our assembly on Friday 6th February and Harriers on Friday 20th please join us if you can.

We finish for half term on Friday.  School will reopen on Monday 16th February. Remember the popcorn sale on Friday – weather permitting.

The next bag to school collection is on Friday 27th February.  This is an opportunity for you to clear out all your old textiles and shoes and help raise money for school.  You will be given a blue bag to fill but any bin bag will do.  The collection will be in the morning of the 27th any time after nine.

Class photos will be on Wednesday 25th February.

Good luck to all the children in the House Verse Speaking Competition tomorrow.
