Dear Parents,

Thank you for your generosity we raised £200 for Children in Need.  The children looked fantastic in their bonkers bottoms.

Friday was the Year Four sleep over.  The children had a fabulous time.  They played games, made mementos, cooked supper and star gazed.  They all settled down to sleep in the hall.  In the morning we had breakfast together, played a few more games and then parents came to pick their children up.  I was so proud of the children who were a little nervous sleeping away from home, maybe for the first time, but bravely did it, had a good time and left with a smile on their faces.  It is such a good preparation for residential trips in Years 5 and 6.  A huge thank you goes out to all the staff who gave up their Friday evening and in some cases night.

Tomorrow Eagles will be leading our Friday Assembly please join us if you can.  Harriers will be leading it on Friday 28th.

On Wednesday 19th our Prime Minister, Deputy and Chancellor went to Charlesworth for the Glossop Pupil Forum.  They had the opportunity to talk to other children from the cluster about the issues that affect them.

Remember Years 3 and 6 are going out for their trip to Quarry Bank Mill on Friday 21st November.  The children do not need to come in uniform.  They need warm layers and waterproofs, especially Year 6 who will be doing field work outside.

The Boy’s Football Team will be playing the next round of their tournament on Friday after school.  We all wish them well.

Some children from the choir will have the opportunity to sing as part of the cluster on Tuesday 25th November as St Mary’s is hosting a singing workshop.

On Wednesday 26th November the Year 5s are participating in a dance workshop at Glossopdale School.  They will work with other children from the cluster to develop their dance skills.  They all need to remember their PE kits on that day.

Non-uniform day is on Friday 28th November.  Children in Kestrels, Peregrines and Ospreys are asked to bring in a donation for the chocolate tombola.  The older children have been asked for gifts for the wrapping stall.  These are items your child can buy and we will wrap them so they can secretly give them to family members for Christmas.  Please make every effort to bring in your donation on the day as they will be collected and organised in readiness for the Christmas fair the following week.

I have been told about another exciting science day in Manchester, University Place.  On Saturday 29th November 11-3 Manchester University is running a ‘Bugs to Drugs’ day.  This is an opportunity to find out how medicines are made; what’s in them; and how they work.  The children can meet scientists and take part in interactive activities.  As if that was not enough it is free.

Yours Sincerely

Dear Parents,

Congratulations go out to our cross country runners who were fleet of foot on Tuesday.  Everyone ran well.  The lower junior Boys Team came first.

The Eagles had an amazing trip to Castleton despite the torrential rain.  They all returned full of what a fabulous day it had been.

Tomorrow is Children in Need day.  We are wearing bonkers bottoms.  Come in normal school uniform on the top half but whatever you like on the bottom.  For the privilege of coming dressed in this way please send a donation.

Tomorrow Kestrels will be leading our Friday Assembly please join us if you can.  Eagles will be leading it on Friday 21st.

Friday is the night of the Year Four Sleep Over I know everyone is really looking forward to it.  We will see the children back at school at 6pm.

On Wednesday 19th our Prime Minister, Deputy and Chancellor are invited to Charlesworth for the Glossop Pupil Forum.  This is an opportunity for pupils from the local schools to meet together and talk about the issues that matter to them.

Remember Years 3 and 6 are going out for their trip to Quarry Bank Mill on Friday 21st November.  If you have not yet sent in the permission slip please do as soon as possible. If your child is in receipt of free school meals and you would like us to provide a packed lunch please let us know by Wednesday.

On Tuesday 18th November all the staff have a cluster meeting so film, gardening and science clubs will be cancelled, PAS will still be on.

If your child is part of the school choir please could you return the letter about availability for performances, even if it is to tell us they are not available.  We have organisers asking us for details we cannot give because we don’t know who will be singing.

Hopefully you will have seen the flyer about the non-uniform day on Friday 28th November.

Please send in any photo orders by Monday as they are being picked up on Tuesday 18th.

Yours Sincerely

Dear Parents,
I hope you have had a good half term week.  I know lots of you enjoyed the events at Manchester Science Week.  Last half term ended on a real high.  All the children rose to the House Challenges and a great time was had by all.  Every member of staff commented on how proud they were of the children.  As well as that the girls football team came second in the High Peak Final and they won the ‘Respect Award’ for the team showing the most respect.  As the children said I would be, I was most proud of this award.  Well done to all the girls who took part.
Congratulations also go to our cross country runners who continue to do well Rose Barlow came 3rd and Lily-Belle Bloomer 19th out of 53 under 11s.  Lily Barlow came 7th out of 60 under 9s.
On Monday the Merlin’s and Eagles had an amazing Anglo-Saxon / Viking day with a visiting historian.  They milked sheep, prepared burial ships, made jewellery, took part in archaeological digs and learned so much about life in that era.
Club news – Computer Club will start this Monday 10th November.  There will be no football club on Wednesday 12th.  Cookery Club is cancelled on 13th as Miss Byron has a meeting that afternoon.  On Tuesday 18th all the staff have a cluster meeting so film, gardening and science clubs will be cancelled, PAS will still be on.
Friday 14th is shaping up to be a busy day Kestrels will be leading the assembly at 9.00.  Please join us if you can.  It is Year Four Sleep Over Night.  It is also Children in Need.  This year we are having a ‘bonkers bottoms’ day.  The children come to school in their school uniform on the top half but can wear whatever they like on their bottom half for a donation to children in Need.  They could wear jazzy trousers or tights, tutus, shorts, pyjama bottoms, anything!
I have had a complaint from one of our neighbours about parking.  Please remember to park legally and considerately.   She was complaining about people parking right up to the junction between Ashley Avenue and Spire Hollin.  She also talked about drivers getting cross with people coming the other way when trying to get along Spire Hollin.  I know, like all schools, at drop off and pick up time it is very busy outside school.  Everyone just needs to have a little patience.
Remembrance Poppies are available in school for a donation to The British legion.
St Luke’s Church is holding a Remembrance Exhibition this weekend.  It has memorabilia, displays, French Café, period vehicles and more.  It will be open 12 – 4 on Saturday, on Sunday there will be a service at 10.00 and then the exhibition will be open until 4.
Kestrels, Peregrines and Ospreys will be delighting us with their Christmas Play 5.30 on 9th, 2.30 10th, 5.30 11th December.  Do put the dates in your diary.  A letter about tickets will come out nearer the time.

Yours Sincerely

Dear Parents,

For once I am going to start with some nags!

  • As I was returning to school around home time yesterday I noticed parents parking in the staff car park and parents walking their children across the car park rather than on the path. Both these things are dangerous and should not happen.
  • Please remember that children should not were jewellery or nail varnish. They may wear one pair of small stud earings but these must be removed for PE. If your child cannot take them out themselves we ask that you take them out on the morning of PE days. If they have had their ears pierced in the last six weeks you may send them in taped on PE days.
  • The number of children coming to school late is increasing, after an excellent start. Doors open at 8.50 and school starts at 9.00. This means children should be in their seats by 9.00 ready to learn. I cannot stress enough how important this is.

Phew that’s that over.

The Community and Charities Committee met with Debbie Rogers to hear about the work she is doing to support rural communities in Bangladesh. She told the children all about a school they are building. The children decided they wanted to support this charity and asked her to come back and talk to the whole school on Tuesday 4th November at 1.15.  The children were very keen that I invited any interested parents to join us.  Please do come to this assembly.

Thank you to everyone who helped with the disco last Friday. It was enjoyed by all and raised £270.  Remember there is a PTA meeting 6.45 4th November at Glossop Cricket Club to discuss how some of the PTA funds might be spent.

There has been a tree planted in the school’s name in The First World War Centenary Wood in Surrey. This is a woodland trust project to create woods in commemoration of all the lives affected by the First World War.

Good luck to our girls football team who have qualified for the High Peak final tomorrow.

Well done to our cross country runners taking part in the Tameside Cross country. In the Under 9s Lily Barlow came 7th.  In the Under 11s Lily-Belle Bloomer came 19th and Rose Barlow came 3rd.  The final race in this series is 15th November we wish them well for this.

We finish for half term tomorrow and school restarts on Monday 3rd November.  I hope you have a lovely week together.

Community Notices:

‘Peak Performers’ Choir is looking for new members. The children here love to sing so I am sure many of them would be interested in joining this choir.  It meets 6-7 Wednesdays at Partington Theatre Club Room.  Weekly subscription £1.50.  For further details ring Brenda Pickford on 01457 856851.

Yours Sincerely
