Dear Parents,

It is just typical you cancel sports day and the sun comes out!  I am so sorry that I had to take the decision to cancel but the field was just too wet.  I had visions of parent’s chairs sinking into the ground causing them to tumble off, children slipping and hurting themselves and possibly loosing several Kestrels in the swamp that was in the middle of the field.  Rather than set a third date now I will wait until we have had a good run of dry weather and a good forecast.

The children are being stars whilst the building work is going on.  I am so proud of the sensible way they are behaving.  The builders are working hard and the classrooms are going to look lovely.

Congratulations to the Boys cricket team who have got through to the High Peak Final.  They are playing that today.  Also good luck to the girls who play on Monday.

The warmer weather seems to have brought out all sorts of creatures including head lice.  There have been a number of reports of children needing to be treated.  Please could everyone check all heads this weekend and treat if you find a live louse.

Next week the church is starting a Christian fun and games club called Quest Club in school.  It will meet on a Tuesday lunchtime 12.30-1.  It is open to children in Key Stage Two who would like to attend.  The first meeting is next week in the library.

Tomorrow sees our first scoot and skate event straight after school.  For £1 the children can stay and use the playground.  Refreshments will be available.

The Gardening Club have asked me to remind parents that the sensory garden is not available for children to play in at the end of the school day.  They work very hard to keep the garden looking nice and would like it to be respected.  Speaking of the end of the school day can I also remind you that the children are not allowed to play on the bank as it is not safe.  Yesterday whilst the top field was being mown children went up there.  If the tractor driver had not seen them there would have been a nasty accident.

We have some musical treats coming up on Tuesday 24th June.  Harriers will be giving up a clarinet concert in the afternoon and at 7pm the choir and other instrumentalists will be showing us what they can do.  A letter about tickets for the evening concert will be coming out soon.

We are helping with The All Age Service at St Luke’s Church on Sunday 22nd June 10-11.30.  A number of the children have said they would like to participate.  I will be sending home a letter so I can get numbers for this.

If you are looking for something for your children to do during the summer holidays Whitehall are offering one day and residential courses at a reduced rate for Derbyshire residents.  For more information go to www.derbyshire.gov.uk/whitehallcentre

Dear Parents,

My apologies for this being a day late I was experiencing technical difficulties, my computer was crashing after every eighteen words.  I am hoping having had a nights rest it will feel more cooperative.  I hope you had a good week and a bit, the children have all come back full of what they have been doing.

School is in a bit of chaos at the moment as we are having the fire alarm and some of the lighting updated.  The staff and contractors are working together to minimise the disruption.  I apologise for any inconvenience caused during this necessary work.

The other thing causing chaos is the weather.  Girls cricket was cancelled yesterday, I am hoping boys cricket will have gone ahead this afternoon.  Our rescheduled sports day is planned for next Wednesday 11th June.  Fingers crossed the weather improves and the field dries up enough for this to go ahead.  The children don’t need to bring in anything for sports day except a PE kit – some children like to wear a tea-shirt in their house colour if they have one.  Please do not go out to buy one specially.  They do not need to bring a drink as we provide them.

The older children are working hard on the summer production which will be performed at 5.30 on Tuesday 15th July, 2pm Wednesday 16th July and 7pm on Thursday 17th July.  We hope by offering this range of times everybody will be able to see it.

On Friday 13th June the PTA are organising a scoot and skate event.  For once the children will be allowed to use their scooters in the playground.  For an hour after school the children can scoot with their friends.  More details to follow.

Talking of scooters please can the children who come to school on their scooters or bikes leave them tidily under the office window.  There have been occasions when they have made it a little difficult to get into school.  Just to remind you all children are encouraged to come to school on scooters or bikes, but they are not to ride them inside school grounds and school cannot take responsibility for their security.

There is a PTA meeting on Wednesday 11th June 7.30 at the cricket club.  Please come if you can.

Dear Parents,

I know it is Wednesday not Thursday but as school is closed to the children tomorrow I thought I would get this newsletter out today.

The Thank You Film Awards were a triumph. The children all had a great time. They were blown away by seeing themselves on the big screen. Not only that but the film made by the Kestrels was awarded second place in the primary category. Thank you so much to Mrs Hillier and Miss Byron for helping it happen.

The PTA ran a very successful quiz night on Friday. The event was enjoyed by all. Captain Quirk was an irreverent and very witty quiz master. The question compilers come up with some challenging questions and the fish and chip supper was tasty. Thank you to everyone who helped make this event possible.

This week we are all loving the Take One Picture Project. The children are encouraged to use the picture selected by The National Gallery to inspire them to take their learning in any direction. We have got cloaks and angels, philosophical discussions and music, job adverts and puppets. If you would like to see some of the work the children have done do join us on Friday at 2.30 when we will be sharing some of the work from each class.

We finish for half term on Friday 23rd May and return to school on Wednesday 4th June.

Remember Kestrels and Peregrines are out at Buxton seeing The gruffalo that Friday 6th June.

ICT club has now finished until September. Mrs Magorrian is moving to Chesterfield and Tom the younger is sailing around Britain so Mr Rank rightly felt it would be best to leave the club until the new school year.

I hope you all have a lovely whit holiday.

Dear Parents,

Not a huge amount to report this week as everyone from Year 2 upwards has been very busy for assessment week. I have been impressed by the good, sensible attitude they have adopted almost everyone has been calm and kept them in proportion. They make up a tiny part of the ongoing assessments we do.

The Year One’s took advantage of everyone else being busy and went to Tescos to explore the shop and the food they stock. I have been told the freezer store is colder than the North Pole. I am looking forward to hearing more about what they found out.

The Police have been into school and asked me to remind you about parking around school. They have received a number of complaints about selfish and illegal parking. They will be carrying out more checks around school. Whilst I am talking about parking I need to remind you again about safety in the school car park. The car park is not available for parents. Children should walk on the path around the car park not across it. If you see someone has left the gates open please could you shut them. All these measures are to keep your children safe not to make life difficult for you. Please comply with them.

I hope you have your tickets for the Quiz on Friday 7.30pm.

There is no family assembly tomorrow and next Friday, 23rd May, the assembly will be at 2.30pm. This will be a sharing of the work the children have done as part of our Take One Picture Week.

Remember school is closed for polling on Thursday 22nd May.

We finish for half term on Friday 23rd May and return to school on Wednesday 4th June.

If your child is in Kestrels or Peregrines and you haven’t yet returned the permission slip for them to go to see The Gruffalo please could you do so as soon as possible.

If your child is in Kestrels or Peregrines and you have not returned the form about school meals next year again please could you as the authority is asking me for the information.

This Sunday there is a Teddy Bears Picnic and Fun Afternoon at Howard Park 2-4pm with face painting, circus skills, art and craft activities and prizes. I hope you and your teddies enjoy it.
