Dear Parents,
We have had a very settled week with everyone working hard despite the hour change. It is amazing how long it takes everyone at school to adapt to the hour change in this direction. There are a lot of tired and slightly niggley children in school. I am sure you are experiencing the same at home.

The Year Fives have arrived in Whitby and the last time we spoke they were exploring the beach. It sounds as if they are having a fantastic time and learning lots outside the classroom.

This Friday 4th April the Peregrines will be leading our assembly please join us if you can.

Next week is Parents Evening and most parents have managed to make an appointment. If you haven’t yet and would like to talk to your child’s teacher about how they are doing at school please contact us.

Due to a number of factors including parent’s evenings there will be no afterschool clubs next week.

On Saturday the choir will be singing at a Fair Trade event at New Mills Town Hall from 2pm. Do come and support them. It is a baking event anyone is invited to enter by bringing their baking with the recipe which lists all the Fairtrade ingredients they have used. They should put their name, age, school year and school on the back of the recipe. The Bake-off will be judged during the afternoon and prizes awarded at approximately 4.00pm. You don’t have to be in the choir to be a baker.

Next week is the last week before Easter, we finish at normal time on Friday 11th. On Thursday 10th we are having a House Eggstraodinary Afternoon. We would like the children to bring in a hardboiled egg on that day. Their work will be on display in the hall at the Easter Raffle and Tea.

On Friday it is the Easter Service in church first thing, well as soon as we have registered the children and walked them over to church. Everyone is very welcome to join us. In the afternoon we have the Easter Raffle and Tea. You are invited to join us for cake and a drink whilst we draw the raffle. The children are asked to bring in £1 for a drink and a cake. Please return any sold and unsold raffle tickets as soon as possible.

You will have received a flyer about our annual plant sale. If you would like to brighten your garden with any of the plant on offer please send the order form and the money into school by Tuesday 8th April. At least 30% of the income goes to PTA funds for your children. If you have misplaced your order form there are spares in the office.

Dear Parents,

Last week was an unusual week with lots of learning taking place outside normal lessons. All of Key Stage Two went to the Bridgewater Hall to experience The Halle Orchestra. Despite the traffic in and out of Glossop being terrible, we made it there with 2 minutes to spare, everyone had a fantastic time. They all added to their musical and cultural learning.

Friday was Sport Relief Day. The children were learning about Personal and Social Education including citizenship plus PE. As if that wasn’t enough they raised over £180 for this worthwhile charity.

Remember the choir are singing at New Mills Town Hall on Saturday 5th April. Parents of choir children if you haven’t sent back the letter to let us know whether your child can sing or not, please could you.

Kestrels will be leading our assembly on Friday 28th March. Please join us if you are available.

After the Kestrel’s assembly the PTA are holding a meeting (with cake!). If you are coming to the assembly we would love you to stay and get involved in the work of the PTA.

Thank you to all the people who have sent in donations for the Glossop Food Bank. We collect all year for them and donations of non-perishable foods are always gratefully received.

I am sorry I don’t have any further news to give you about Mr Montgomery other than he is getting very frustrated at being unable to return to work. I am so grateful to all the staff at St Luke’s for working over and above what should be expected of them to ensure your children have been receiving good quality education at what could have been a difficult time.

Next week on Wednesday the Eagles are off to Whitby for a three day residential. They will be studying a contrasting area, looking at the Geography and History of Whitby. Most importantly they will be working together away from home and having a ball.

The Adult Education Centre, who brought us Family Science, are offering either an afterschool Family German or Spanish course. It would be open to 7-11 year olds plus a parent. If you would be interested in this please let the office know, and which language you would be interested in learning, and we will see what we can do.

Easter Raffle tickets should have come out to you last week. If you know that you are not going to sell any / all of your raffle tickets please could you send the spares back to the school office. This year the PTA have not had many spare books left over (which is great) and there are parents that have asked for spares.
There is also a cake bake promise list in the school office – if you can bake a cake / cakes for the event then please add your name to the list or let Nicola Williamson know.

The NUT will be taking industrial action on Wednesday 26th March. School will be closed to the children.

Remember the choir are singing at New Mills Town Hall on Saturday 5th April. Parents of choir children please send back the letter as soon as possible so we know whether your child can sing or not.

Dear Parents,
The children all look great dressed up for world book day today. Thank you for all the effort you put into it. The children should be bringing home a book token today. This is a gift from the booksellers of this country. It can be exchanged for a special World Book Day Book or used as £1 off any book worth £2.99 or more.

The Year 5s are spending tomorrow morning at Glossopdale Hadfield Site. Remember they are meeting there at 9.15 unless you have let us know you need our help to get your child up to Hadfield.

Harriers are leading our assembly tomorrow at the normal time of just after 9am do join us if you can.

The Ospreys have been invited to Glossopdale on Wednesday 12th March to participate in a morning of dance. We will be walking them up to the Glossop site and they will be back in time for lunch. They all need to have their PE kits in on that day.

Our Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and Chancellor will be attending the Pupil Forum at St. James’ School on Tuesday 11th March. This is an opportunity for representatives from all the Glossop primaries to meet up and discuss issues that matter to them.

We have just been asked to do a huge favour by the elections office. Their usual polling station is flooded and will not be usable for at least six months. As we are part of the local community we have agreed to help out. School will be used for a polling station on Thursday 22nd May. We will use it as our last INSET day of the year. School will be closed to the pupils and the staff will use the day to plan for the implementation of the new national curriculum. I know a Thursday is not the ideal day for an INSET day especially just before half term but I feel this is an unusual situation. At least I hope flooding is unusual.

The Education Welfare Officer is starting to look at the number of pupils who are late. Lates are becoming a big problem at the moment. Pupils have to be in school ready to start learning by 9am. Please help give your child a good start to their day by getting them to school on time.

Class photos are coming out today if you would like a copy of this please return it to the school office as soon as possible.

If you were wondering how the girls did at football last Friday; there were no teams that hadn’t played each other already so instead they had a mixed school friendly. What a lovely way to end a tournament with everyone playing together.
