Dear Parents,
It has been another busy but worthwhile week. The children accepted the challenge in their houses to make a Christmas tree on the theme of ‘recycled’. Every tree is really different and every tree is amazing. If you haven’t had chance to see the trees yet they are all on display in the hall.

The Christmas Fair was another triumph, thank you to all the people who helped at it or supported it. The building was full of happy people enjoying spending time together in school. The choir sang beautifully. As soon as I know how much we raised I will let you know.

The Christmas play will have it’s third and final performance tonight. The children have worked hard to learn the songs and their lines. It is so nice to see every child in Kestrels, Peregrines and Ospreys performing the part they wanted. It always amazes me how the staff adapt the production to accommodate all those children’s different wishes. They let the dancers dance, the singers sing and the budding thespians act. Those who like to stand out are given a chance to and those who prefer to perform as part of a group are allowed that relative anonymity. As well as all this they challenge all the children to do a little bit more than they thought they could do. Thank you to all the staff who make this possible.

Tomorrow we are all off to Glossopdale for a musical treat and then we will come back to school for Christmas Dinner.

On Sunday the choir are performing at The Big Sing at St Luke’s Church. It starts at 3, please can the children be there by ten to so we can seat them together.

Next week is another busy week with parties and performances aplenty. There is no swimming or clarinet though. The parties are Tuesday Kites and Harriers, Wednesday Eagles and Merlins, Thursday Ospreys, Peregrines and Kestrels. Children can come in their own clothes or bring party clothes to change into.

On Wednesday the School Orchestra and the Flute players are going to perform in assembly, just after 9am. Any parent who would like to come along is more than welcome. As they need to be performance ready Katherine Elliott has asked that the orchestra children are in school ready to rehearse at 8.15 on Monday.

On Thursday the choir are singing at The Central Methodist Church at 10am. It would be lovely to have an audience.

Friday is one of my favourite events of the year our Carol Service at St Luke’s Church. It starts when we can get all the children across from school, so about 9.20am. I know lots of you will want to join us for this. The PTA will be providing refreshments for you after the service.

We finish at normal time on Friday 20th. Apart from the choir who have one more booking on Sunday 22nd at St Luke’s Church Carols by Candlelight Service. Please meet there at 6.20.

School restarts on Monday 6th January. School clubs restart the week beginning 13th January. PAS and Gymnastics will contact you to let you know when they restart.

Remember we have an INSET day on 17th January when school is closed to the children.

Dear Parents,
I don’t know about you but at this time of year time seems to speed up. We will all be moving as fast as Usain Bolt by Christmas.

The Glossop lights switch on was a fabulous event. The children who sang as part of the choir really enjoyed being part of this special occasion. The choir has several other bookings; The Christmas Fair, The Big Sing 3pm on Sunday 15th December at St Luke’s Church, the Christmas tree festival 10am Central Methodist Church Thursday 19th and 6.30 Sunday 22nd at St Luke’s carol service. Please do come along and support them at any or all of these occasions.

The choir will also be singing at our Carol service at 9.20ish on Friday 20th December, as will the whole school. Please do join us and get into the festive spirit.

Next week is the Key Stage One Christmas Production on Tuesday 5.30, Wednesday 2pm and Thursday 5.30. If you have not yet ordered your tickets I would do so soon.

Christmas Dinner is on Friday 13th December. If your child normally brings a packed lunch and would like to join in this wonderful school occasion please let the office know by the end of tomorrow 6th December.

On Friday 13th December the whole school is also attending a concert by professional musicians at Glossopdale. If your child has not yet returned their slip for this please do so as soon as possible. As we will all be out on that morning there will be no Friday toast.

The Party season is almost upon us. Kites and Harriers are having their party on Tuesday 17th, Eagles and Merlins on Wednesday 18th, and Kestrels, Peregrines and Ospreys on Thursday 19th. On the day of the party the children can come in party clothes or bring them to change into at lunchtime.

Clubs
There will be no Film Club or Key Stage One Club now until January. ICT club will have it’s last meeting on Monday 9th December. Cookery Club finishes tonight. Sports Club will meet next week 12th for the last time until January. Gardening Club has already finished.

The assembly tomorrow will be led by Harriers, do join us if you can.

I have been asked to tell you about an event at The Partington Theatre on Friday 20th 7.30 and Saturday 21st 2.30 & 7.30 December. Glossop Opera is presenting A Christmas Opera Gala in aid of Mummy’s Star. Tickets are available from Bay Tree Books, The Soup Seller or Partington Theatre Bar.

Finally but very excitingly tomorrow is the Christmas Fair, after all the anticipation it is almost here. Doors open at 5.30. There are stalls and games and food and the elves tell me Santa has promised to take time out of present making to come. Book your slot to see him on the night.

Mrs Morris has decided to leave at Christmas. We are delighted for her but sorry for us. She is going to peruse her other interests. If you would like to send in a donation towards a leaving present please pop it in an envelope and give it in to the office.

Dear Parents,
All the events at the end of last week were a triumph. The footballers played really well and did not loose a match. Thank you to Mr Dunkerley who manages the team so well. The Tatton Park trips were both enjoyable and inspiring, the children learned a lot. Dear Parents,

Friday was so exciting the children looked amazing dressed as their heroes. So much thought had gone into who they considered a hero. Thanks to your generosity we were able to send over £250 to Children in Need. Thank you so much. That alone would have been an exciting day but it got even better…… David Tennant, the David Tennant, answered a question our children had posed during a live Q&A session.

It is hard to imagine that there could be any more excitement left but the opportunities keep coming. Today and tomorrow the children in Key Stage Two are visiting Tatton Park to support their learning about food and farming in World War Two. On Friday it is one of the most anticipated nights of the school year ‘Year Four Sleep Over’. I am very pleased that almost all of the Year Fours are coming back to school on Friday Night to spend the evening doing activities together, sleep over in the school hall and go home in the morning. This is an invaluable part of our Personal and Social Education and loads of fun.

Next week looks like being a slightly quieter week than this week. Friday 29th is dress down day for donations to the School Christmas Fair. KS1 children are asked to bring in anything chocolatey. For KS2 we’re asking for gift donations for the Wrap Stall, anything from toys, jams, smellies for mum, something for dad. The children can then do their own Christmas shopping for that someone special! Gift donations are coloured themed: Kites, red; Harriers, green; Eagles, silver and Merlins, gold.

The PTA have a slightly odd request…..if anybody has a small fish tank they can loan for the fair (empty I hasten to add!). Could they let Deb Griffiths know (deb@griffiths-jones.co.uk)

On Friday 29th November Kites Class is leading our assembly as ever you are very welcome to join us.

Saturday 30th November is Glossop Lights Switch on. Our choir will be performing as part of the celebrations. We are also producing a sculpture for the event on the theme of the community. If you have any pictures of the people and places that are important to your child in our community we would be very grateful if we could borrow them.

If your child is in the school choir and has not yet returned the slip to indicate which events they are available for please do so this week. We may have to pull out of events we do not have enough choristers for and we would need to give the organisers as much notice as we can should we have to let them down.

There will be no ICT club on Monday 25th November.
