Opening eyes, hearts and minds

Dear families of our St. Luke’s children,

We are very sad to say that our lovely Mrs Evans, School Business Assistant extraordinaire, is leaving us.  Next Tuesday will be her last week at St. Luke’s.  Mrs Evans has been with us for six years and has been a superb member of the staff team caring for all of us as well as the children.  We will miss her immensely and wish her well in her retirement.

Disco

The school discos are next Thursday – Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 3.30 – 4.30pm and years 3,4,5 and 6 from 5.00 – 6.30pm.  Please see the PTA newsletter for details about tickets and stamp cards or call in to the office if you have any questions.

Thank you PTA!

We are very lucky to have such a lovely bunch of people in our PTA.  This week a team of them gave up their day to put up the new shed for the Reception children to be able to store their bikes in the playground.  If you want to know the answer to how many people does it take to put up an 8ft by 6ft Keter shed – let me know!  (hint:  it was much longer than instructions said it would be!). We would be stuck without our bands of willing volunteers, particularly with all of the exciting projects that are happening around the school.  Please see Chika Jones or Rosie Howell if you want to be part of the teams helping us to make those projects work.

Flu Immunisations

Unfortunately, the immunisations team were unable to complete all of the immunisations today as they were delayed in arriving here.  Immunisations for years R, 1, 2, 3 and 4 will be done at another time.  If your child was in Years 6 or 5 or were having the jab rather than the nasal spray, they received their immunisation today.

Emails

We think that the issue with emails has been resolved as no emails are bouncing back to us.  If you are not getting copies of the newsletters or anything else that is being sent out, please contact the office and we’ll see why this is.

INSET on Friday 27th October

Just a reminder that school finishes for the children at the end of the day on Thursday 26th October as the staff have a training day on the 27th October.

Wishing you all a restful weekend.

With best wishes

Mrs Rogers

Opening eyes, hearts and minds

13/10/2023

Dear families of our St. Luke’s children,

We’ve had another busy week here at St. Luke’s.  I’m loving the enthusiasm that the children show up with every day even though we’re in a very long half term and everyone is a bit on the tired side!

Sports

We have a very strong tradition here at St. Luke’s of attending lots of different sports competitions.  The children continue to do us proud as excellent ambassadors for the school and fantastic role models for the rest of our pupils.  We have received lots of compliments about how the teams support each other, play fairly and with respect at all times and are resilient when things don’t go the way they want them.  A big thank you to all who competed in the football and rugby games and a big congratulations to the netball team who came top of the Gloospdale table yesterday and as a result are through to the High Peak league in March.

Flu Immunisations

Please see the link below to inform us as to whether or not your child can have the flu immunisation.  This is administered as a nasal spray (unless there is a reason your child cannot have the spray.) The closing date for signing the form is the 17th October.

The immunisations will take place in school on Friday 20th October.

Glossop Jog

Thank you to those who took part in the Glossop Jog on the weekend.  St Luke’s was very well represented and I was impressed with the stamina our youngsters have.  If you were one of the people who took part, please can you return your sponsorship money to the office ASAP.

Home-Start

We have been asked to let you know about the Home-Start initiative.

“Home-Start is a family support charity with two main core beliefs. One is that children’s early years are crucially important; the other is that the best people to help parents who are going through difficult times are other people with parenting experience. We recruit and train parents and match them with families with young children who are really struggling – it could be because of poor mental or physical health, financial hardship, family break-up, domestic abuse – a variety of issues. Volunteers befriend parents and children in regular home visits for as long as they are needed, linking them with any specialist help they need. It really works – and volunteers benefit too, as the training and experience can prove to be a springboard into further training and employment.”  The charity are looking for volunteers to become part of their network.  They are also keen to hear if you need support with anything.  Please see their website for more information.  www.homestarthighpeak.org.uk

Emails

The issue with us sending emails to Hotmail or msn email addresses still hasn’t been resolved.  Apologies if you are one of the people affected by this. We are still pushing for a fix for the issue.

Wishing you all a restful weekend.

With best wishes

Dear families of our St. Luke’s children,

Harvest Festival

What a lovely start to the week we had at the church for our Harvest Festival.  The children were brilliant and we were treated to a whole host of great performances.  It was heartening to see that so many parents and carers could join us.  We will make sure that we sort out additional seating for any more events that we hold at the church.  Glossopdale Foodbank were thrilled with the donations they received – it was enough to fill two cars and will go a long way in supporting the families that need it.  Thank you so much for your generosity.

Glossop Jog

I’m looking forward to seeing all of our joggers on Sunday 8th October at the Redgra on Pikes Lane at 11am.  Come and find me and Mrs Hillier before the race so we can register you.  Fingers crossed for dry weather.

Nut-free school

We’ve had a couple of incidences of children bringing in food containing nuts in their packed lunches.  We are a nut-free school as we have people here who are very allergic.  Please can I ask you to make sure that any food that is brought in from home does not contain any nuts at all.  Many thanks for your support with this.

Bikeability

Well done to the children in Year 5 who took part in the bikeability sessions.  I heard nothing but good things from the trainers, both in how well the children did, and also their excellent behaviour throughout the days.

Brass Lessons

There are spaces available for anyone who would like to learn to play a brass instrument.  Contact Mrs Evans or Mrs Hukin in the office for more information.

School Photos

Don’t forget it’s school photos on Wednesday next week.  Any families with children of pre-school age who want photos taken with their older siblings, please come to the office at 8.30am.

School Email System

We are struggling to send emails to anyone who has a Hotmail or MSN account.  Apologies for this.  We are attempting to get it fixed ASAP.

Wishing you all a restful weekend.

With best wishes

Mrs Rogers
